After deflation was reported in Bulgaria for three consecutive months, August is no exception with positive rates of 0.1%. For the 15th month now, annual inflation in Bulgaria has been in the single digits and continues to decline, according to data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) here on Monday.

In August 2024, the monthly inflation rate was 0.1%, while the annual inflation rate was 2.1%. The inflation rate is measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), with monthly inflation referring to the month of August 2024 compared to the previous month, and annual inflation for August 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year.

A reference with the NSI shows that the monthly inflation figures for July were positive at 0.8% and the annual inflation for July 2024 compared to July 2023 was 2.4%. In June 2023, inflation was in the single digits at 8.7%, the first time since January 2022 when it was 9.1%.

Prices of goods and services

In August 2024, the prices of goods and services increased in the following consumer groups:

• Food and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.9%
• Recreation and culture by 0.5%
• Alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.3%.

The prices of goods and services decreased in the following consumer groups:

• Clothing and footwear by 3.3%
• Transport by 0.9%.
