A meeting was held here on Wednesday between caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, caretaker Transport and Communications Minister Krassimira Stoyanova, caretaker Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi Tahov, caretaker Deputy Transport Minister Dimitar Nedyalkov, the Director of the Customs Agency, Georgi Dimov, and the chief of Border Police, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov discussed urgent measures to ease traffic at the border crossings, the Interior Ministry said.

It was reported that traditionally around 1 September there is a huge accumulation of heavy trucks and car traffic. In this context, urgent measures were discussed and identified to ease and shorten the time for vehicles to pass through the border crossings of Lessovo, Kaptain Andreevo, Danube Bridge - Ruse and Danube Bridge - Vidin.

It was decided that the Director of the Customs Agency should prepare a strategy for traffic management at all border crossing points in the country.

The ministers expressed their readiness to check on the spot the work of the subordinate officials and to analyse the implementation of the organisational measures taken.

During the meeting it was once again underscored that the biggest losses from Bulgaria's non-admission to Schengen on land are suffered by Bulgarian carriers.
