site.btaThe Long-Term Solution Is Nuclear Power, Says Romanian Energy Minister
The long-term solution is nuclear power, said the Romanian Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja, who took part online at the fourth edition of the Green Transition Forum - Green Transition Forum 4.0 on Thursday in Sofia. Organizers of the event are Dir.bg and 3E News. The forum is taking place between June 26 and June 28. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is media partner of the event.
According to Burduja, there may be other types of energy, but the main thing should be the development of nuclear energy, as well as investments in batteries for energy storage. In the short to medium term, Romania has turned to natural gas production and expectations are that by 2027, the country will produce more than it needs.
He noted that the development of renewable energy sources will continue and will intensify, and that there are already energy storage projects of 4,000 megawatts in Romania. A lot is also invested in the development of small modular reactors, Burduja added, with the first small modular reactors expected to become operational at the beginning of 2029.
The coal plants in Romania are gradually being closed down, which will make the transition smoother and easier, concluded Burduja.
The forum is being organized by Dir.bg and 3E News, with BTA as a media partner.
