The New European Bauhaus (NEB) Academy will play a crucial role in supporting efforts to upskill 25% of construction workers over the next five years, EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova said during the official opening of the NEB Academy at the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels.
The NEB Academy Alliance brings together 14 European partners from the sectors of education and vocational qualification, connecting local and regional centres across Europe that will offer training services, curricula and programmes for sustainable solutions in construction. The initiative aims to help architects, engineers and builders develop their skills.
NEB Academy coordinator Andreja Kutnar said that all trainings at the Academy will be tailored to the needs of the learners. She called for more education centres to join the initiative.
Kutnar presented Ivanova with a piece of a 30-year-old chestnut tree grown in Slovenia as a symbol of sustainability, beauty and of what needs to be achieved - connecting creative minds.
Addressing the event, Ivanova highlighted the efforts of artists and institutional representatives to transform ideas into concrete policies shaping the environment people live in. She gave the Concrete to Culture in Sofia project as an example of these efforts as it shows how design can revitalize public spaces.
