site.btaBulgaria's Deficit Trends Further Up, EU and Euro Area Deficits Decrease in Q3 of 2023

In the third quarter of 2023, Bulgaria's seasonally adjusted government deficit as a percentage of GDP stood at 6.6%, Eurostat reported on Monday. Slovakia was the only EU Member State with a larger deficit (-7%). 

Bulgaria's government deficit was 4.4% in the second quarter of 2023 and 3.7% in the first quarter.

In the third quarter of 2023, the EU and euro area deficit to GDP ratios stood at 2.8%, a decrease compared to 3.0% in the second quarter of 2023, according to Eurostat. Measures to alleviate the impact of high energy prices continued to impact on the government balances in the third quarter of 2023.
