Wholesale prices of staple foods in Bulgaria remained basically unchanged in the fourth week of November, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said here on Sunday. The index of wholesale food prices increased by 0.18% over the reporting week to reach 2.215 points. At the beginning of 2023, the index stood at 2.316 points. In early March, it reached its spring maximum, at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

The price of greenhouse cucumbers rose by 22.9% to BGN 3.33 per kilo. Of the fruits monitored by the Commission, oranges's prices fell the most - by 16.4% to BGN 2.40 per kilo.

According to the data, the price of tomatoes fell by 7.2% and they are trading at BGN 3.23 per kilo. Potatoes became cheaper by 0.8% to BGN 1.28 per kilo.

The price of carrots went up by 6.2% to BGN 1.03 per kilo, of ripe onions (imported) - by 1.5% to 1.32 leva per kilo. Cabbage prices rose by 2.1% to BGN 0.98 per kilo, lettuce prices - by 2% to BGN 1.02 per piece. The price of red peppers increased by 8.1% to BGN 2.27 per kilo, and green peppers by 11.3% to BGN 1.87 per kilo.

Price of imported apples fell by 1.6% and traded at BGN 1.85 per kilo. Lemons traded 3.9% cheaper at BGN 2.22 per kilo. The price of bananas increased by 3.5% to BGN 2.96 per kilo. Grapes prices rose by 11.3% and were bought for BGN 2.75 per kilo.

The price of cow's cheese increased by 1% to BGN 11.58 per kilo, while Vitosha cheese - by the minimum 0.1% to BGN 17.57 per kilo.

Yoghurt (3 and above 3 per cent fat content) prices dropped by 2.5% to BGN 1.18 per 400 g bucket, while fresh milk (3 per cent fat content) - by 0.9% to BGN 2.22 per litre.

Chicken meat prices went up by 1.1% to BGN 6.41 per kilo. Eggs (size M) prices also rose by 5.7% and were bought at BGN 0.37 apiece in wholesale at the end of the week. 

The price of rice remained unchanged at BGN 3.18 per kilo. Lentils' prices rose by 0.5%  and were bought at BGN 4.17 per kilo. Ripe beans rose by 1.2% to BGN 4.17 per kilo. 

Sugar became cheaper by 1.7% and traded at BGN 2.33 per kilo. Oil prices rose by 2.2% to BGN 2.75 per litre. Type 500 flour prices fell by 5.4% to BGN 1.23 per kilo. The price of cow's butter (125 g packet) increased by 3.8% to BGN 2.73 per unit.
