The Council of Ministers updated the section of Bulgaria's 2050 Climate Neutrality Roadmap concerning maneuvering and base load capacities, the Government Information Service said on Friday. The aim is to ensure that the Roadmap is in line with the agreement between the Prime Minister, Council of Ministers members, MPs, and representatives of trade unions in the energy sector signed in Parliament on October 3, 2023.

The Council of Ministers adopted the decision without meeting.

The intermediate values for the coal processing capacities for 2026, 2030, and 2035 envisaged prior, were dropped from the Roadmap. They will be specified during the renegotiation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, as envisaged by the National Assembly’s resolution of January 12, 2023.

Later on Friday, the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) and the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour issued positions on the Roadmap’s update.

In a position published on their website, CITUB said: “We want to receive official information on the Government’s decision and to be presented with the new Roadmap draft in a timely manner so we can familiarize our structures with it.”

A position released by the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour’s press centre regarding the Roadmap’s forthcoming adoption reads that the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the Territorial Just Transition Plans, and other documents have been drafted, and several versions of them have been available on the Internet. According to the trade union, this makes them almost impossible to discuss because everyone comments on a different version.
