Bulgaria, together with Poland, Hungary, Czechia and Romania call for urgent addressing of the issue with the Ukrainian farm imports to the EU, President Rumen Radev said here Wednesday. He answered a reporter's question about ongoing protests of Bulgarian grain producers who complain that Ukrainian grain is undercutting their produce.

"We insist that this matter be regulated as a matter of emergency and that adequate support be provided to our producers to offset the losses they sustain," said the President. He said that he had raised the issue "seriously" before the European Council, the European Commission President and the EU Council President.

Hundreds of grain producers from the regions of Burgas, Varna and Dobrich rallied at the checkpoint of Kardam and General Toshevo, disturbing traffic through the border with Romania. Earlier on Wednesday, grain producers also blocked traffic through the Danube Bridge checkpoint near Ruse.
