A CNN television crew from the network’s European headquarters in Prague has filmed a fifteen-minute segment for an upcoming documentary featuring the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI), Prof. Dr. Christo Pimpirev, the organization announced.

The journalists expressed interest in the National Polar Research Program and the use of probiotics based on Lactobacillus bulgaricus, discovered by Bulgarian scientists, to boost immunity and combat stress under the extreme conditions in Antarctica, according to the BAI.

At the beginning of August, Prof. Pimpirev was awarded a medal at the Meeting of Managers of National Antarctic Programs held in Warsaw. The event was attended by representatives of 33 countries with polar bases and active scientific programs in Antarctica. Prof. Pimpirev received international recognition for his long-standing role as the Bulgarian representative and Vice President of the organization from 2006 to 2009. For his contribution to the expansion and deepening of scientific and logistical cooperation among Antarctic nations, he was honored with a special medal from the President of the organization during an official ceremony.
