site.btaOver 7,000 Pupils from 450 Schools to Participate in 15th Bulgarian National English Spelling Bee

The week of school competitions of the fifteenth edition of the Bulgarian National English Spelling Bee opened on Saturday at the Asen Zlatarov Profiled High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Botevgrad, the organizers announced.

More than 7,000 pupils up to grade seven from 450 schools across the country will take part in the first stage this year, having prepared hard for several months. Pupils in grades two to four take part in the junior Spelling Bee, while other pupils compete in the "big" Spelling Bee. The first and second place finishers will go on to participate in the regional qualifiers, which will take place from March 10 to 14, and the top students will participate in the regional competitions on March 22, 2025. The regional winners will participate in the national finals on April 12 and 13 in Sofia, where the Spelling Bee and Spelling Bee junior champions of Bulgaria will be determined.

Spelling bees are traditional American competitions in which participants must correctly spell, letter by letter, English words from a pre-prepared list. The competition increases students' interest in learning English and improves their knowledge through fun and interactive activities. The competitive element is a very strong motivator for the participants and the emotion is unparalleled. School Spelling Bee competitions become a real celebration for the whole community, the organizers say.

They note that over the past months, contestants have learned hundreds of new words and developed qualities such as discipline and confidence. "The results achieved are proof that with hard work and dedication we can achieve the goals we set. Taking part in the competition gives pupils the opportunity to work as a team, tackle challenges and show their best in front of an audience. Spelling Bee is more than a competition, Spelling Bee is a community that inspires students to believe in themselves and dream boldly," the organizers add.

The Spelling Bee National English Spelling Bee is organized by the Corps for Education and Development - CORPluS Foundation. It is implemented in partnership with the America for Bulgaria Foundation, the US Embassy and the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science.
