According to the latest news published by the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the museum building, its staff and exhibits continue to be safe from the fires that have been devastating the city, caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov said during a Q&A session in Parliament here on Tuesday. The exhibition Ancient Thrace and the Classical World: Treasures from Bulgaria, Romania, and Greece has been open for visitors in Getty since November 4, 2024, and is scheduled to end on March 3, 2025.

Kondov added that his Ministry has no information about an imminent threat to the Thracian artefacts provided by Bulgaria. Commenting on a building operated by Getty that was damaged by the fire, he pointed out that this building is not a part of the museum complex.

Since the fire broke out, fire engines and teams have been deployed around the museum, ready to respond if necessary. The museum's emergency teams carry out regular inspections of the building, and no fire damage has been identified so far. The galleries are in good condition. Exhibits are protected from the effects of the smoke by being stored in their own display cases.

Getty reported that significant efforts have been made over the past year to clear of vegetation the areas surrounding the museum, which is currently helping to limit the impact of the fire. On January 7, irrigation was deployed on the museum grounds, provided by the museum's own water reservoir. The double-walled construction of the museum's galleries provides effective protection both for the building and the collections it hosts.
