The Institute of Balkan Studies with the Centre for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) is organizing an international conference, titled: "Cultural Diplomacy and the Balkans: Achievements and Challenges in the Modern Era". The event will take place on October 23 in the panoramic hall of the Kvadrat 500 Art Gallery, said the organizers.

The Institute of Balkan Studies was established as a research and educational centre for the languages, history, culture and contemporary development of the Balkans. The BAS Centre for Thracology is a continuation of the Institute of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy founded in 1972, which existed as an independent unit in the BAS until reforms in 2010, when it joined the Institute of Balkan Studies.
