Silvia Velikova Receives Bulgarian National Radio Sirak Skitnik Award for 2023

Journalist Silvia Velikova is the recipient of the Sirak Skitnik award "Sirach Skitnik" of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR)) for 2023. The award was presented by Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova on Thursday evening at a ceremony at the radio’s First Studio, which also marked its 89th anniversary.

On January 25. 1935, Tsar Boris III signed the decree by force of which the Bulgarian National Radio was created.

Iotova said that the national radio succeeds in fulfilling its mission to inform, educate, set cultural standards and build bridges to unknown worlds.

Four other awards were presented during the ceremony. The prize for radio journalism was awarded to Zlatko Zhelev, head of the Internet Portal Department. The award for radio broadcast, radio project, music project or multimedia project of the Bulgarian National Radio was won by the team a virtual exhibition, marking Sirak Skitnik’s 140th birth anniversary.

For the first time the award for professionalism has been presented to another media outlet. Its winner is Georgi Lyubenov from the Bulgarian National Television. The Golden Voice Award for 2023 goes to Angel Grigorov.

"I think that the radio today is full of dreamers broadcasting their dreams to our audience. And that has its very simple explanation. The radio is still full of people who love their work and who love radio," said BNR Director General Milen Mitev during the ceremony.

The ceremony was also attended by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on culture and media Toma Bikov, the director of the National Library Krassimira Alexandrova, Gabriela Naplatanova, member of the Council for Electronic Media (CEM), BTA Deputy Director General Evgenia Drumeva, BTA Secretary General Julia Sokolova.
