Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov's novel Time Shelter is being studied as part of New York University’s course on contemporary novels, the Bulgarian Consulate General in New York said on its Facebook page.
The lectures are being taught by Margaret Boe Birns, who specializes in 20th-21st century English, American and European literature, contemporary world literature, the short story and the nineteenth century novel. She has an award for excellence in teaching from New York University.
The course itself explores new works by contemporary writers, including rising novelists, award winners, and established favourites.
Gospodinov's literary masterpiece won this year's prestigious Booker Prize and has already been presented by its author at the New York Public Library and Columbia University, the release points out.
The book was written in Bulgarian and translated into English by Angela Rodel, who shared the international prize with Georgi Gospodinov, the Consulate General also noted.
