In October, Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas will host The Deep Blue Sea Festival of Young People in Art, a Blown Glass international project, and a large exhibition of works by applied arts students, the National Academy of Art (NAA) said on Thursday.

The Deep Blue Sea Festival will take place between October 10 and 14, 2023, at the Burgas Port Complex and the NAA's Burgas branch studios. The Printmaking Base will house an exhibition named after the Festival.

The Festival's programme will provide young and established Bulgarian and foreign artists with a platform for an exchange of artistic practices. Various workshops will be organized to attract art-oriented people based in the Burgas area. The initiative also aims to establish connections between the NAA and secondary schools with a view to inspiring young people to pursue their education at the Academy.

As part of the Festival, temporary art installations and sculptures will be displayed in the area around the Port of Burgas. The participants will be able to do murals in some of the outdoor areas. The programme also includes art film screenings followed by discussions, meet-and-greets with renowned Burgas cultural figures, tours of artists' and photographers' studios, presentations, and lectures by the participants.

Between October 9 and 14, the Chengene Skele Culture and Tourist Complex near Burgas will host the Blown Glass international project organized by the NAA’s Porcelain and Glass Design Subdepartment. Visitors will be able to enjoy demonstrations, historical reenactments, and lectures.

The project participants include students and lecturers at the NAA, the Lviv National Academy of Arts, and the Bucharest National University of Arts, as well as Dutch artists Ed van Dijk and Harry Baptist. Pantaleimon Arnaudov, who practises glass processing in Czechia, is also involved in the project. On October 12, each of the artists will take part in a joint exhibition at the Chengene Skele Culture and Tourist Complex exhibition hall.

Between October 11 and 30, works by 30 NAA students working in woodcarving, ceramics, textiles, metal, porcelain, and glass design are on display at the Peyo K. Yavorov Regional Library.
