The sixth edition of the Yogurt Festival in Momchilovtsi, Southern Bulgaria, will take place between September 1 and 3, the organizers said. 

The festival will include the Queen of Yogurt - Miss Rhodope 2023 beauty pageant and the winner will become the face of the Chinese brand of yogurt Momchilovtsi.

The festival is being organized after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The forum will present the traditions of Momchilovtsi, the ecologically clean products of the Rhodope Mountains and the beauty of Rhodope music, said Momchilovtsi Mayor Siika Surkova. Guests at the festival will include representatives of the Chinese company Bright Dairy & Food, which produces yogurt under the Momchilovtsi brand. The partnership with the Chinese dairy producer is also linked to a series of advertising campaigns presenting Momchilovtsi as a place of longevity and a healthy lifestyle.

The festival programme includes an exhibition of dairy producers, tastings of traditional Rhodope dairy products and culinary specialties, a drinking competition with airyan [traditional savory yogurt drink]. During the event, Momchilovtsi will also be advertised as a mountain tourism center with 150 km of hiking trails. Asian guests will present a Chinese tent with traditional handicraft products.

The Yogurt Festival is organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism by the Bulgarian Centre for Development, Investment, and Tourism in China, Demi Travel EOOD, the Chinese company Bright Dairy & Food, with the active support of the Smolyan regional administration, the Smolyan Municipality and the village of Momchilovtsi.
