Stara Zagora Diocese Representative Choir Wins First Prize at Hajnowka Orthodox Church Music International Fest

The “Holy Apostle Carpus” Representative Choir of the Stara Zagora diocese won the first prize at the 42nd Hajnowka Orthodox Church Music International Fest held between May 25 and May 28 in Bialystok, Poland, the Metrpolitanate of Stara Zagora said on its website.

The choir, conducted by Metropolitan Cyprian of Stara Zagora and Maria Denkova, was the only one presenting Bulgaria at the fest featuring also participants from Estonia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Ukraine and the USA.

The "Credo" Church Chamber Choir from Lutsk (Ukraine) conducted by Kateryna Tokalo was awarded the second prize, and the Art Vox Female Choir from Chisinau (Moldova) conducted by Stefan Macovei – the third prize in the amateur category.

The choirs competed in two categories: amateur and professional.

The special achievement of the festival is that it promotes not only well known compositions from the huge heritage of Orthodox Church music, but also presents newly discovered songs in this field. the organizers of the event said on its website.

The event was organized by the Orthodox Church Music Foundation in Hajnowka, Poland, and was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
