MECh leader Radostin Vasilev warned in Gabrovo on Saturday that if the government continues to operate in its current manner, there will be serious social and political tension. He was in the city for the opening of a new party office.

Vasilev said he finds it difficult to comment on what he called GERB leader Boyko Borissov’s theatrical performances, coordinated with Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chair Delyan Peevski. He added that he expects a statement from There Is Such a People's chair Slavi Trifonov in the next few days, which would clarify whether Trifonov will give up on the last hopes of the people and officially join a coalition with Peevski. According to Vasilev, if Trifonov is not ready, the country will head to elections, and if he is, the government will be reshaped.

He suggested that it will soon become clear whether Nataliya Kiselova’s position will be sacrificed, or whether ministers from MRF – New Beginning will be appointed. Vasilev described the current situation as potentially marking the beginning of the end for GERB.

“GERB are in a weakened position, and their leader appears visibly worried. The party is losing even its remaining core voters,” Vasilev said. “In such coalitions and ongoing negotiations, I focus on understanding the actual dynamics. If they take a new direction, it will be even more damaging and create greater political and social friction. If nothing changes and Peevski’s support persists, it is clear that Borissov's era has ended, as well as that of BSP and TISP,” Vasilev added.

During his visit to Gabrovo, he observed a high level of fear in the city and believes this reflects a broader trend throughout Bulgaria. In his view, recent events have led to increased civic tolerance, with society becoming more accustomed to accepting difficult situations.

“So far, whenever there has been protest energy, it has always been divided. Peevski is a cause that could unite all protesters in the country. Peevski in power, as the head of the State, not just Peevski in Pazardzhik, but Peevski everywhere, means that our protests, those of Vazrazhdane, and those of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) will all converge. The fear of what will happen in the country will then be even greater,” Vasilev said.

He described the opposition as “toothless” and suggested that small triggers could lead to bigger changes. "Tomorrow, an incident will occur, someone will get a nosebleed, and the entire government will collapse, including Peevski and his security, if you catch my meaning, as well as the mayor of Gabrovo. I ran as a candidate in Gabrovo three elections ago, so I know how people communicate here. I monitor the situation and believe that abuses like those in Gabrovo likely exist only in Kardzhali," Vasilev added.
