site.btaBSP - United Left: New Political Crisis Would Devastate Social Peace

A new political crisis would devastate social stability and essential systems and could jeopardize the government's achievements to date, the Executive Bureau of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party said on Wednesday.
Following the statements made on Tuesday, BSP - United Left expects the ruling party to submit its proposals to the Joint Governance Council. "We will then make our decisions in the party's collective bodies and in consultation with our coalition partners", they added.
The statement also says that, in the current political situation, the party is prioritizing the financial and social stability of the state and the Bulgarian people, and that they have put aside their narrow party and political egos in the name of the public interest.
"We believe that each of our partners in the coalition government shares this principled position. Our experience of working together so far shows this to be the case. A government reshuffle, the obstruction of the National Assembly, and new elections are all potential options. However, in terms of stability versus destabilization, they dangerously tip the scales towards destabilization, and the subsequent step towards economic and social crisis would be quick and easy”, BSP - United Left added.
On Tuesday, GERB-UDF floor leader Boyko Borissov stated that he sees no place for GERB in the current government. This took place at party headquarters during a meeting between the GERB-UDF parliamentary group and Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, after GERB finished sixth in the Pazardzhik municipal council elections.
“We will not break the coalition, but we will not remain in this position where every day it is explained as ‘Borissov-Peevski’,” Borissov said. He also noted that Delyan Peevski is not part of the government, and if Peevski were to join officially, Borissov would decide on the appropriateness for GERB-UDF after consulting the Joint Governance Council.
"The PM should get ready, including the chair of the National Assembly", Borissov said. "One year is sufficient, enough is enough. Whether the Chair is from There is Such a People or Continue the Change–Democratic Bulgaria, even though it is our right, I don’t care. But they cannot keep taking advantage of us", he added.
Shortly after, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) Chair Delyan Peevski issued a statement expressing his agreement with Borissov’s view that this marked a pivotal moment for the country’s governance.
Peevski noted that MRF fully supports the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov, even though it does not occupy any ministerial, deputy ministerial, or executive roles. He stated that MRF is prepared to take on responsibility, that a negotiating team will be appointed in the coming days, and that he expects an invitation from Zhelyazkov and other governing parties for discussions, as Borissov previously proposed.
