Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) Deputy Floor Leader and Yes, Bulgaria Co-Chair Bozhidar Bozhanov and a group of CC-DB MPs have submitted to the National Assembly amendments to the Civil Registration Act, aiming to eliminate the need for a Certificate of heirs, the press centre of Yes, Bulgaria said on Tuesday.

According to Bozhanov, who is quoted in the statement, digitalization and organizational reforms will make it unnecessary to issue or present such certificates. He believes it is inappropriate for people to deal with bureaucracy and stand in queues after the death of a loved one.

The proposal envisions that, once a death is registered in the system, data about the heirs will be automatically updated in the population register, and any institution that requires this information will be able to access it officially.

According to the MPs proposing the amendments, the Certificate of heirs is an unnecessary bureaucratic hurdle that comes at a difficult time in people’s lives. It should be eliminated and replaced with an official electronic reference, which would be used by anyone legally entitled to process such information.

"Citizens should stop acting as couriers for the administration," Bozhanov said.

Last week, Yes, Bulgaria MPs submitted a bill to amend the Labour Code. The proposal would allow accumulated paid annual leave, acquired during pregnancy and maternity leave, to be used on an hourly basis for the purpose of dropping off and/or picking up a child up to 12 years of age from nursery, kindergarten, or school.
