Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski demanded on Friday that the National Assembly vote to close the Anti-Corruption Commission next week, according to a press release by his parliamentary group. The press release also stated that Peevski wanted to put an end to the speculation and the partisan abuse of European principles and norms. The parliamentary group submitted a bill on July 30, 2025, to close the Commission, and the party wants the National Assembly to vote on this bill.
Earlier on Friday, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Assen Vasilev announced that signatures had been collected for the resignation of the Commission's chair, Anton Slavchev. When asked if he supported the resignation of Slavchev, GERB-UDF Floor Leader Boyko Borissov responded that he supported it "with both hands". He added that he also supports the resignation of the entire Commission. The Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (ARF) and Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh) have also expressed support for the request.
Peevski stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission currently only serves the interests of a handful of failed CC-DB politicians who use it as their personal weapon. He added that the current form of the Anti-Corruption Commission was created by former Democratic Bulgaria Co-Chair Hristo Ivanov for former interior minister Boyko Rashkov, and that former Continue the Change co-chair Kiril Petkov still clearly commands the head of the Commission.
