Yes, Bulgaria party, part of the Democratic Bulgaria coalition, is seeking an urgent response from Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov as to why the official food price information website is still not operational. In a letter to Zhelyazkov, Yes, Bulgaria co-chairs Bozhidar Bozhanov and Ivaylo Mirchev reminded the PM that in July, amendments to the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria Act were adopted. These amendments stipulate that individual product prices must be published daily on the website of the Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP).
However, two months after the amendments came into effect, the website https://kolkostruva.bg/ is still not functioning, the co-chairs said.
Yes, Bulgaria is demanding that the PM present a clear schedule with deadlines outlining the actions that the Council of Ministers, CCP, National Statistical Institute, Ministry of e-Government, and Information Services have taken and plan to take to ensure transparency in the pricing of products in the consumer basket at retail outlets.
“Price transparency, the ability to compare prices, and to track trends for specific goods are key in the period before and after the euro adoption, in order to limit speculative price increases,” Bozhanov and Mirchev stressed, insisting on an urgent response to their inquiry.
The parliamentary amendments, adopted on July 30, grant the Council of Ministers the authority to adopt temporary measures to counter significant price increases for essential goods and services. MPs also decided that major retail chains must publish the final selling prices of all products and services in the large consumer basket on their websites on a daily basis.
