Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov, who also chairs the National Council for Cooperation on Ethnic and Integration Issues, will be among the keynote speakers at the 18th meeting of the European Platform for Roma Inclusion, to be held in Brussels on October 2. The event will address the topic “Insights and lessons after five years of implementing the EU Roma Strategic Framework – Progress made and remaining challenges,” the Government press service said Wednesday.

Zafirov is expected to present data on Bulgaria’s progress in implementing the EU Roma Strategic Framework. European Commissioner for Equality, Crisis Preparedness and Management Hadja Lahbib will deliver a special video address to the participants.

During his visit to Brussels, Zafirov will also hold talks with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O’Flaherty, who will also attend the meeting.

The European Platform for Roma Inclusion plays a key role in monitoring and supporting the implementation of the Strategic Framework. The event will include a series of workshops with the participation of national-level institutional representatives. The discussions will address key issues related to Roma inclusion and focus on supportive policies and practices at both European and national levels.
