On the occasion of June 2, There Is Such a People leader Slavi Trifonov wrote on Facebook: “It’s not easy being a hero. You need to make sacrifices. For other people or a cause. You have to be ready to die. That’s probably why there aren’t that many heroes.” June 2 is the Day of Hristo Botev and Those Fallen for the Freedom and Independence of Bulgaria.

“There were such people in Bulgaria. And we should be proud and mark with respect and dignity this day, in their honour. Because if they didn’t exist, we wouldn’t exist,” Trifonov’s post reads.

Earlier on Monday, sirens wailed for two minutes, people and vehicles across the country stood still in a sign of respect for Bulgaria's freedom fighters. This is how Bulgaria traditionally marks the Day of Hristo Botev and Those Fallen for the Freedom and the Independence of Bulgaria.
