site.btaBNB Governor Radev Discusses Bulgaria's Progress to the Eurozone with MEP Maydell

Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Governor Dimitar Radev met Eva Maydell, European People’s Party MEP and chief negotiator on the accession of Bulgaria to the eurozone as of January 1, 2026, the BNB said in a press release here on Thursday.

This country's progress towards the euro area, as well as the main conclusions from the recently published convergence reports of the European Commission and the European Central Bank were at the focus of the discussion.

Maydell congratulated the BNB for its active role in preparing for membership and stressed the importance of institutional consistency and stability in this key process for the country, the statement said.

The role of the European Parliament in the final decision on Bulgaria's adoption of the single currency was also discussed.

In conclusion, Radev and Maydell noted that despite the positive signals from European institutions, hard work lies ahead for Bulgaria in the coming months in order to meet all the conditions for successful adoption of the euro, the statement said.
