site.btaCabinet Approves BGN 107.7 Mln for Science and Research in 2025

Cabinet approved funding of BGN 107,702,800 for the development of science and scientific research in 2025, the Government press service said here on Thursday.

Some of this funding will support projects included in the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure. The funds will give Bulgarian researchers access to modern equipment and help upgrade and expand research facilities with advanced and specialized tools.

Another portion of the approved funding will cover Bulgaria’s membership in the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERICs). This will allow Bulgarian scientists to collaborate with their European peers and access shared research facilities. The membership also provides opportunities for researchers to take part in various experiments, major projects, and joint programs.

The funding will also support national research programs designed to attract and retain young scientists working on key societal issues. These programs address significant social challenges and help train specialists who conduct research in areas such as climate, water resources, healthy food and biotechnology, disaster response, cultural heritage, low-carbon energy sources, digital technologies, and electronic healthcare technologies.

The decision also allocates funding to the Research Fund, which will use these resources to organize its regular competitions.

Some of the funds will also be used to support international partnerships, bring in top foreign researchers, and pay for subscriptions to academic journals. This will give Bulgarian researchers access to the latest scientific findings and electronic databases.
