His Holiness Pope Francis dedicated his ministry to peace, understanding and unity among peoples, wrote President Rumen Radev on his profile on the social network X.

He pointed out that Pope Francis defended humanity, the right to life and justice in a period of great trials for the human race. Heartfelt condolences to the Holy See and to all Catholics in Bulgaria and around the world, Radev added.

The death of Pope Francis was announced by the Vatican in a video message earlier on Monday. Eighty-eight-year-old Francis, whose birth name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was elected pope on March 13, 2013.
