Public organizations called for a second boycott of large retail chains due to high food prices, and reported success of the first such initiative which took place on February 13, said representatives of public organizations that organized the first boycott. At a BTA press conference on Monday, the organizations stressed that the upcoming boycott on February 20 was not against small neighbourhood stores.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov admitted that the boycott of stores was more than successful, as the trade turnover on that day was nearly 30% lower, and promised to undertake legislative changes to limit markups and overbuying, said Velizar Enchev, a member of the initiative committee.

On Saturday, the Prime Minister convened a meeting of the Council of Ministers, at which various measures were proposed regarding prices. Enchev said that they would insist on having protected prices for certain products, and that the next boycott, planned for February 20, will be at the same time as the boycott announced in Croatia.

The organizers also called on manufacturers to support the boycott on February 20.
