The National Heart Hospital (NHH) is in an extremely poor financial state, which necessitates urgent rescue measures, caretaker Minister of Health Galya Kondeva-Mankova said during a meeting with heads of clinics at the hospital, the Health Ministry reported on its website on Wednesday. The meeting took place after employees of the hospital sent an open letter to express their views on a restructuring plan proposed by the hospital administration.
The Minister was adamant that losing the NHH is out of the question, which is why a viable solution to stabilize the facility must be identified. She assured the hospital representatives that her Ministry will do whatever is necessary to help the hospital including through a loan project to repay accumulated debts. Kondeva-Mankova specified that backing this project would require a clear plan for securing the loan as well as specific proposals for improving the performance of the medical institution. She invited the NHH representatives to submit any potential proposals they might have for developing the hospital.
Within the upcoming days, the healthcare providers will hold a meeting with the NHH Board of Directors, which will also be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry said.
Back in December 2024, NHH medics voiced their concerns about restructuring the medical facility. On December 30, Parliament Chair Nataliya Kiselova spoke with NHH medics who were against the hospital restructuring. She stated then that healthcare issues would be among the priorities of the 51st National Assembly.
