Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova on Monday signed the condolence book of the US Embassy in Sofia on the death of the 39th President of the United States and Nobel Peace Prize winner James "Jimmy" Earl Carter Jr., the Foreign Ministry press office said Monday.
In her message, Shekerletova conveyed on behalf of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on her own behalf her sincere condolences to the US Government and the American people for the great loss. "Jimmy Carter was an outstanding statesman and humanitarian who lived in the service of the people, promoting peace, democracy and human rights. He also contributed to conflict resolution in complex times. Guided by his strong faith and values, Jimmy Carter devoted his life after the presidency to selfless service to the people in the interest of social justice, improving health care and fighting disease. Thanks to the Habitat for Humanity Foundation he established, Jimmy Carter has helped millions of people around the world, including in Bulgaria, build a home. He was an example of compassion, kindness and hard work. Jimmy Carter will remain an inspiration to us all. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this sad time," the condolence message said.
