Caretaker Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova attended the signing of the agreements with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), on Friday at the Council of Ministers. “We are grateful to our partners for the opportunity they provide us and for their support in our efforts to build a modern and safer rail infrastructure that meets the modern needs of society,” she said.

“The National Railway Infrastructure Company and USTDA signed an agreement to fund a feasibility study to improve Bulgaria's rail network and to build a data and security centre for network operations in Bulgaria,” Minister Stoyanova said. She added that the total cost of the study is USD 2.23 million. The grant from USTDA will enable a major feasibility study to be done for the construction of a national cable telecommunications network across the country.

In addition to the telecommunications market analysis, the project also includes the conduct of additional analyses. Optical fibre connectivity will enable provision of up-to-date information on passengers, timings, delays and other important details which are now in short supply, the Minister said.
