President Rumen Radev Tuesday awarded distinguished Bulgarian doctors with the Order of St. Cyril and Methodius necklace at a ceremony in the Coat of Arms Hall at the building of the presidential institution.
Sabina Zaharieva was honoured for her significant contributions to the development of medical science and the field of endocrinology and metabolic diseases.
Radka Argirova received the award for her notable contributions to the advancement of medical science and the field of virology.
Boryana Slancheva was awarded for her significant contributions to the development of medical science and the fields of paediatrics and neonatology.
Ivaylo Tarnev was bestowed with the state honour for his significant contributions to the development of medical science and public health.
"This ceremony is an expression of the deep gratitude of society for your work, significant scientific and professional results and dedication, for your commitment and contribution to health care, to strengthening preventive care and raising the standards in Bulgarian medicine," said the President.
The head of state expressed his respect for the doctors who have dedicated their lives "to such a challenging profession in the most complex field of human knowledge – medicine". "It requires an unwavering belief in goodness and in humanity; it is a profession founded on the highest human values," said Radev. "Your professional biographies place you among the doctors and scientists who seek new solutions to give hope to conditions that medicine deems incompatible with life," he added, thanking them for generously sharing their knowledge with their students and inspiring new generations.
Prof. Dr. Radka Argirova said it was an unforgettable and exceptional day for all honorees. "We are filled with pride, as we have reached new heights in our scientific and practical achievements. We are grateful because this award is a huge incentive and recognition of our many years of hard work," said the professor. "We stand firmly on a scientific foundation, we use modern technologies, we are not afraid of anything new, and we never stop learning," she added.
Prof. Argirova emphasized that doctors fight against prejudice and pseudoscience.
