site.btaBorislav Gutsanov: BSP's Congress Has Already Put Up Sanitary Cordon around GERB and MRF
BSP –United Left will put forward its own candidate for speaker of the 51st National Assembly. Once the parliamentary group takes its decision, the name of the candidate will be announced, said Borislav Gutsanov, former BSP for Bulgaria floor leader, on Bulgarian National Radio.
He was adamant that the Bulgarian Socialist Party put a cordon around GERB and MRF more than 10 years ago by its Congress, long before Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) were on the political scene.
"It was CC-DB, who brought Borisov and Peevski back to power and to the upper echelons of the state, when they made this shameful coalition, and to talk about a sanitary cordon is a bit insolent," Gutsanov said. He added that it is CC-DB that are at the root of the constitutional crisis into which the state has fallen because of the amendments to the Constitution.
Therefore, along with its motion for annulment of elections, the BSP-United Left will also petition the Constitutional Court to reinstate the old provisions of the Constitution and restore the powers of the president in appointing a caretaker cabinet.
"There is no way for the next elections to be held under the same rules. The caretaker cabinet is the one who has to ensure the fairness of the vote. And is it a caretaker cabinet or is it a political cabinet?", Gutsanov asked rhetorically.
In his words, the main priorities for BSP-United Left are social benefits for the people.
The construction of a new nuclear power plant in Belene and guaranteeing safe and affordable electricity is another important issue for the left alliance. Gutsanov was adamant that an agreement should be sought around such priorities instead of talking about who would support what cabinet.
