site.btaBSP: Election Violation Alerts Require Immediate Response from Relevant Institutions
The numerous alerts for election law violations, manipulation of voting results, tampering with tally sheets, vote buying, and controlled voting that have gained public attention since the October 27 snap parliamentary require an immediate response from the relevant institutions, the Executive Bureau of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said in a position released on Friday.
If the analysis of these violations, promised by caretaker Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov, fails to reveal the instigators behind these illegal acts that distort the election process, it will raise serious concerns about the independence of law enforcement and its ability to uphold the law without interference.
"We call for an uncompromising, professional, and objective investigation of all alerts for election violations and full transparency to the public," the position read.
Reporting on high-profile police operations for prevention of violations that clearly failed to produce meaningful results cannot alleviate the widespread belief among the Bulgarian public that the Interior Ministry did not fulfill its responsibility.
"We urge the prosecution service to respond swiftly to the current situation and the resulting public tension. The risk of irremediably compromising the foundation of Bulgarian democracy – parliamentarism - remains real," the BSP Executive Bureau said.
