The Cuban Ambassador in Sofia, Marieta Garcia Jordan, Monday reviewed relations with Bulgaria and complained of the impact of the US sanctions. She gave a news conference in the building of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists which was announced as part of the Union's annual programme of meetings with diplomats accredited to Bulgaria.
The ambassador stressed that Cuba and Bulgaria have traditionally good relations and recalled that diplomatic relations were established 64 years ago in October. She said the two countries can cooperate in many areas, including sport, culture and experience exchanges.
In her words, Cuba and its economy are victims of a US embargo which has lasted for more than 60 years and has tightened in recent years. The Ambassador said the losses to the Cuban economy run into billions. "In 2021, Cuba was added by the US to a list of States Sponsors of Terrorism, but Cuba is not a terrorist country, it is a country of peace," the diplomat said.
She also recalled the loss of life and damage caused by Hurricane Oscar in Cuba.
