Bulgaria and France are ready to sign an updated Roadmap for Strategic Partnership to an Agreement signed in 2008. This transpired at a meeting between Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov and French Ambassador Joel Meyer, the Foreign Ministry said.

The sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations, which in 2024 mark 145 years since their establishment. They underlined the desire to continue the active dialogue at all levels, both bilaterally and within the EU and NATO.

They underlined the intensive cooperation in the field of defence and shared a common vision to create a strong European defence industry, which is an important factor in ensuring strategic needs and which is essential for security in Europe.

Opportunities for industrial cooperation in the defence industry were discussed and the French side expressed interest in partnership in the field of equipment development and participation in priority projects for the modernization of the Bulgarian Armed Forces.

The talks also focused on the potential for development of cooperation in the energy sector, in particular in the field of civil nuclear energy, following the signing in Paris in February 2024 of a Declaration of Intent on cooperation in this area.
