On September 12, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Elena Shekerletova received copies of the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Sofia, Nathaniel Copsey, the ministry said on Thursday.

The two diplomats praised the state of bilateral relations and committed to deepening and building on the strategic partnership in all areas of mutual interest, including within multilateral formats. Special attention was paid to the role of the large Bulgarian community in the United Kingdom as a natural bridge between the two countries, as well as to educational, scientific and technological exchanges. The importance of measures to achieve economic growth, security cooperation and the new outlook for UK-EU relations were also discussed.

Deputy Minister Shekerletova expressed gratitude to the British Ambassador for the consistent support for Bulgaria's foreign policy priorities, including the country's accession to the OECD, and the political dialogue maintained at all levels.

Shekerletova and Copsey also discussed issues related to the organization of the forthcoming early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria and the provision of opportunities for Bulgarian citizens to exercise their right to vote on the territory of the United Kingdom, the statement said.
