Two Firefighters Injured While Extinguishing Fire in Montana Region

Two firefighters were injured while extinguishing a fire in a rugged area around Varshets, Montana Region, the Regional Directorate of the Interior told BTA on Monday. The two officials of the regional Fire Safety and Civil Protection Directorate in Montana were injured on August 11, when a fire engine overturned while extinguishing the fire.

One of the firefighters has a gash on his arm, and the other has been hospitalized with three broken ribs and difficulty breathing.

The fire over Varshets had burned during the whole day on Sunday. Late in the night, it was put out by about 50 people, firefighters, foresters and volunteers from the municipality of Varshets. The number of hectares of low vegetation burned is being determined.

Until now, there had been no cases of injured firefighters in Montana Region this year, the Regional Directorate of the Interior told BTA. Two citizens have been injured in fires in the region since the beginning of the year.
