Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria has called for the resignation of the caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, due to inadequate handling of recent fires and overall mismanagement within the Ministry, CC-DB MP Yavor Bozhankov said during a press briefing in Parliament here on Thursday.

"For the first time, an entire Bulgarian village has been completely engulfed in flames. Undoubtedly, this situation stems from poor organization, not a shortage of funds within the Interior Ministry," the MP said.

He noted that the previous cabinet, led by Nikolay Denkov, allocated BGN 169 million from Operational Programme Environment for 385 specialized vehicles to combat forest fires. Additionally, the road safety fund contains over BGN 300 million. Bozhankov also noted the procurement of vehicles for the Border Police. He asked why, despite the significant funding and the awareness of fire risks declared back in February 2024, appropriate investments had not been made.

Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov also demanded Stoyanov's resignation, as well as caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev's, over the mismanagement of wild fires.
