Speaking at a briefing in Parliament, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) chairman Dzhevdet Chakarov said, “We expect the President to hand over the mandate and Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) to show statesmanship and start in-depth talks for a regular government with clear goals and priorities for the country's development. Chakarov was expelled from the Movement's parliamentary group, along with two dozen other MPs.

Chakarov stressed that he and the rest of the independent former MRF MPs are ready to respond to an invitation for negotiations after the second mandate is handed over.

He pointed out that the lawful practice is for the proposals from CC-DB’s draft declaration to be set as elements of a governance programme on the basis of which talks for a government should be held and, if a majority is formed, these legislative initiatives should become an integral part of a coalition agreement for governance. This is the guarantee for the implementation of this programme, the independent former MPs from the MRF group believe. “We did not support the GERB-UDF mandate precisely because of the lack of concrete talks and vision for the development of the country,” Chakarov said.

“In connection with CC-DB’s draft declaration with anti-corruption priorities and following our conviction that Bulgaria should have a stable government with a clear programme and priorities befitting an EU and NATO member state, we share the opinion that we need to find effective solutions to fight corruption in Bulgaria,” Chakarov stressed.
