An exhibition created with objects from Sofia’s Zhenski Pazar (Women’s Market), from Mexico and Detroit will be presented at Sarieva Gallery in the capital. It is by Bulgarian-American artist Dessislava Terzieva and can be viewed from June 14 to July 14, the organizers said.

According to them, the exhibition is in part inspired by the location of the gallery. Terzieva will include objects selected from the nearby Women's Market. The exposition is also part of the collaboration between Sarieva Gallery and DOT Sofia to present known and emerging Bulgarian artists and establish a collector's environment.

Dessislava Terzieva was born in Sofia and emigrated to Detroit. She has a BA in political science from Oakland University and a Master’s Degree in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art. After graduating, her nomadic existence between Mexico, Sofia, and Detroit began. Unlike artists who work in a studio for months on a piece and then put it on public display, since she lives in three countries, Terzieva has changed her way of working. In Sofia, for example, she will bring materials from Mexico and Detroit, and when she arrives she will get everything else that she needs from the Women's Market. This specific mixing of places is autobiographical, but at the same time it speaks of globalised reality, migration and mass trade, the gallery said.

Terzieva is a Bulgarian-American contemporary artist born in 1989 in Bulgaria. She currently lives between Detroit, Sofia, and Mexico. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Cranbrook Art Museum. Even before specializing at Cranbrook, Terzieva became a part of the Detroit art scene, exhibiting off-site and in non-institutional settings, curating in independent spaces, and presenting interactive and immersive installations in public settings. In 2021 she founded the Fidana Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting contemporary art and interventions in public environments and existing infrastructure. Terzieva has exhibited in Bulgaria, the USA, Kosovo, Greece, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland.
