The National Service for Protection announced Friday special security measures for central Sofia on Saturday for the funeral of Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte. The head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church passed away on March 13 in hospital at the age of 78 after a long illness.
Two checkpoints will be set up from 8am for the people willing to attend the funerary service beginning in St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral at 9.30am. The attendees will be checked with metal detectors for firearms, knives, sharp objects, explosives and flammable substances and pyrotechnics. The area will be off-limits for people in visibly inadequate state or people carrying bulky luggage.
No drones will be allowed in an area of 1.5 km around and 1 km over the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral from 8.30 to 3 pm.
The Patriarch will be interred in the St. Nedelya cathedral after his mortal remains are taken there from St. Alexander Nevsky in a funerary procession.
