site.btaItalian Health Minister Pays Official Visit, Cancer Prevention Is in the Focus of Agenda

Italian Health Minister Orazio Schillaci paid an official visit to Bulgaria March 4-5 with an agenda focused on initiatives and actions for cancer prevention, said the Health Ministry in Sofia and the Italian Embassy. 

The guest met with Bulgarian Health Minister Hristo Hinkov who said that Bulgaria will continue to benefit from the experience of its Italian partners in the disease prevention and screening, and all other programmes that have proven to benefit public health.

Deputy Health Minister Mihail Okoliyski is quoted as saying that this country is preparing a large-scale campaign on disease prevention and is also investing more in this department.

For his part, Minister Schillaci underscored the important of investing in health rather than in the treatment of diseases. He said that in Italy, the process involves pharmacies due to their extensive network.

The Italian Health Minister was accompanied by Francesco Schittulli, President of the Italian League against Tumors (LILT) and LILT project leader Andrea Borchio.
