The representative office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Bulgaria celebrated 30 years in Bulgaria with a conference on Bulgaria's political and economic contribution to EU integration in Sofia Monday.

In his address to the participants, National Assembly Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov said that the Bulgarian integration process has been, and is difficult, not only because of national peculiarities, but because life has become very dynamic and the generations want it very quickly to become reliably happy and beautiful, and the expectations of the young towards the state have become excessive. The principle of solidarity seems to have given way to winning elections, to political expediency, Zhelyazkov believes.

At the moment, we are seeing the achievements of human, artificial intelligence, a clash with baser instincts, what we are seeing in the Middle East is an emanation of this, Zhelyazkov pointed out.

In her congratulatory address to forum participants, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel noted the need for coordinated and political efforts at the global level.

Outgoing Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova talked about the need to create leaders, young, democratic politicians. After the end of her term as mayor of the capital, Fandakova announced that she intends to get more involved in the education of young people.

Europe functions if there are democrats in Europe, if there are Europeans, MEP and President of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Markus Ferber pointed out. Being European does not mean having 27 prime ministers meeting every week in Brussels, he added. It is the people who have to meet who have to solve common problems, the focus of our attention must be on what binds us together in order to overcome what divides us, he stressed. For Bulgaria, EU membership was very important, it was an example of an institutionally successful attempt at European integration, Ferber said.
