The European Union is going through a process of transformation. It is not the same, because the world economy has changed, its place in the world has also changed, said political analyst Ivan Krastev, who took part in the discussions within the framework of the ongoing “Government Meets the Business" forum organised by Capital magazine in Sofia.
According to Krastev, the conflict in Ukraine, which has affected a number of sectors, including energy, trade and others, has played a role in these developments.
The analyst pointed out that the situation in the Middle East, including the risk of an escalation of tensions there, should also be monitored.
If we move towards a major conflict in the Middle East, which goes beyond the borders of Israel and Palestine, it means completely different prices for oil and other commodities, Krastev noted.
The analyst also highlighted some countries' fears related to demographics as important issues, as well as the changing geopolitical logic of the European Union's future enlargement.
