site.btaGovernment Allocates BGN 40 Mln for Sofia Metro Extension

The Cabinet approved here on Wednesday an additional transfer of up to BGN 40 million from Sofia Municipality’s budget for construction of Line 3 of Sofia’s metro, the Council of Ministers said. 

The funding is earmarked for the planning, construction, supply, installation and commissioning of underground traffic control and management systems, communications, platform gates, and acquisition of subway trains. 

The necessary funds will be disbursed from the 2023 central budget.

The construction of the subway is Sofia’s largest transport and environmental project. It will bring significant benefits by improving living conditions and air quality. The subway currently has a total length of 52 km with 47 stations.
