The District Prosecution Office of Burgas has launched an investigation into four deaths in Tuesday's flood after a downpour in the southern coastal town of Tsarevo, District Prosecutor Georgi Chinev said. He invoked a Penal Code article which provides for the punishment of a person who causes the death of another person due to ignorance or careless performance of an occupation or other activity constituting a source of increased danger.
The investigation will focus both on the documentation and on the works involved in the building and operation of a bridge in Tsarevo which collapsed during the flood, causing the four deaths. All four victims - two men and two women - were swept away while crossing the bridge.
The scene and the bodies were examined. An initial inspection of the bridge will be followed by another inspection. A drone has also been used and a technical expert examination will be ordered. The mechanism of the accident could become clear only when the experts' conclusions are available, the District Prosecutor said.
