The residents and guests of Blagoevgrad marked the 151st birth anniversary of Gotse Delchev in front of the monument to the revolutionary in the city on Saturday. A wreath-laying ceremony was held on Macedonia Square.
Among those paying floral tributes at the monument were Blagoevgrad Mayor Ilko Stoyanov, the chairman of the local municipal council, Radoslav Taskov, Regional Governor Stoyan Hristov, as well as the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Shushkov, MEP Angel Dzhambazki, representatives of the Regional Directorate of the Interior in Blagoevgrad, cultural institutions, political parties.
Speakers at the commemoration said that Gotse Delchev wrote his name in history as one of the most significant figures in the struggle for the liberation of the Bulgarian lands that remained under Ottoman rule after 1878. The ritual ended with the anthem of the Republic of Bulgaria, performed by the Blagoevgrad Big Band.
