site.btaFacemasks in Indoor Public Places Become Mandatory in Sofia Starting Thursday
Starting Thursday, August 4, facemasks become mandatory in Sofia in indoor public places, according to an order of the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate's Director. Hospital visits will also be restricted.
The temporary anti-epidemic measure will be in effect for a period of 30 days.
Disposable or reusable facemasks will be mandatory for anyone visiting indoor public places, including health care establishments, pharmacies, opticians, specialized institutions for the provision of social services, residential social care facilities for children and adults, administration establishments and other places with public access, commercial sites, public transport, taxi cabs, train stations, bus stations, metro stations and Sofia Airport.
Children under six will not be required to wear a face mask, as well as restaurant and entertainment establishments staff, those engaged in indoor sports, participants in conferences, briefings, news conferences or seminars when speaking and while maintaining physical distance of at least 1.5 m from the others, TV show hosts and guests (while maintaining physical distance).
All persons not from a single family/household will have to maintain a physical distance of 1.5 m when in crowded public places outdoors.
Employers will have to ensure frequent disinfections and ventilation, ban persons with symptoms of acute respiratory infections from entering the premises, instruct staff about hand washing and disinfecting, ensure conditions for a physical distance of at least 1.5 m. In case the latter is impossible, face masks will have to be worn. There is a need to ensure the possibility for remote work or organize work with varying hours and shifts.
Hospital visits will only be allowed for patients who are hospitalized for over five days at the discretion of the physician in charge.
