The minimum gross wage in Romani will become BGN 1,591 (RON 4,050) as of January 1, 2025, this country's Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said after a meeting of the National Tripartite Council on Wednesday. He added that the tax-free threshold of RON 300 of the minimum wage will be maintained.
"This brings us closer to the European minimum wage! We are complying with the European directive which states that this amount should be between 47% and 52% of the European minimum wage (Romania will be at 47%)", the Romanian Prime Minister wrote on Facebook.
On July 1, 2024, the minimum gross wage in Romania was increased from RON 3,300 (BGN 1,297) to RON 3,700 (BGN 1,454), or by 12.12%. With the tax-free threshold of RON 300 in the minimum wage, a employee in Romania receives RON 2,363 (BGN 928) net, news website HotNews wrote.
According to the Ministry of Labor, around 760,000 workers in Romania receive minimum wage, accounting for 13.9% of the total workforce.
